HANDSCAPE – handpan duo Vova & Kuba
Handscape
Vova Makovskyi & Kuba Makowczyński
Handscape began with a simple meeting and a shared feeling that sound can do more than just resonate.
In September 2023, at a handpan festival in Kraków, Vova and Kuba sat down next to each other and began to play. No plan, no arrangements. Just listening to one another. It was one of those moments when everything falls naturally into place – and you know it is worth pursuing.
That was the beginning of Handscape.
Every concert is a living story created in the here and now. Sometimes calm and spacious, sometimes more rhythmic, but always rooted in attentiveness – to one another, the space and the people around us.
The handpan, an instrument with a soft, organic sound, has become more than a tool for them. It is a way of communicating. A sound that invites rather than insists. To become quiet, to pause, to feel closer to yourself for a moment.
Handscape concerts often unfold in silence, without haste. The audience need not sit in rows. You can lie down, close your eyes and rest. It is a space where you don’t have to do anything – just be and listen.
Vova brings a strong sensitivity to performance and emotional depth to the duo. His experience with movement and imagery gives the music a natural expressiveness and subtlety.
Kuba has been involved with rhythm and percussion for years. In Handscape, he focuses on creating space and guiding the sound so that the listener can become immersed in it.
Together they create something that is hard to fit into a single genre. It is neither a conventional concert nor background music. More of an encounter. With sound, with silence, with something that emerges in between.
Handscape is a moment to slow down.
And remember what tranquillity sounds like.
